About

My college baseball recruiting journey was a rollercoaster highly driven from poor guidance and lack of information. In high school, the recruiting process was an unknown world for me. The first school I committed to was Bethune-Cookman University; after committing, I soon learned how difficult recruitment would be. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic back in 2020 there were many problems that led me to not attend. Without any connection to the coaches/recruiters, I enrolled at Miami Dade College instead. They have always been a top JUCO program and I was cut from the team and left feeling lost and unsure of my next steps.

My next decision was to transfer to Barry University for the spring of 2021. Barry is known for being one of the top NCAA D2 programs, however, I only had one at-bat during my stay. Feeling unhappy with the lack of opportunities given, I chose to leave. Without much knowledge about recruiting, I followed a friend to a junior college in Maryland, but that too didn’t go as planned. After an unsuccessful stint at a Division I school due to credit transfer issues, I hurriedly accepted an offer from an NAIA school and was hoping for a fresh start. Once more, I realized this was not the right decision for me. I didn’t enjoy my time there due to the coaching style and felt the need for a better fit.

Determined to find a place where I could flourish both on and off the field, I transferred once more to Ave Maria University for my senior year. Throughout this challenging journey, I’ve learned the importance of understanding the recruiting process and finding the right environment to grow. Though it’s been a tough road, each step has taught me valuable lessons about resilience and perseverance. I want to share my story not to say I had a hard time or that I know every solution because of my experiences, but rather to encourage other athletes. So many athletes are left stranded after a recruiting service finds them a school, but that school isn’t the right fit. We are all going to make mistakes and choose the wrong path at some point. What matters most is having a team around you that is equipped to help guide you towards the right path again. Feeling lost and rushing decisions are two of the biggest factors in unsuccessful college careers. That is why I started Standout Prospects; we are committed to helping athletes prepare themselves for the recruitment process and find the right place for their abilities to flourish.
